Solstice Spectrum,

july 2021

Solstice Spectrum, made in collaboration with Collective Ending as part of the New St Ives School Residency brings to the fore our curiosity of the ritualistic experiences of cooking and eating, as gobyfish and members of Collective Ending embraced the organic surroundings of rural St. Ives. In particular, the event examined two monumental pre-human advancements, the discovery of fire and the use of tools for food preparation, and how these shaped our species’ evolutionary development. Evoked through three sculptural grills that allowed the preparation of slow cooked foods over an open flame, gobyfish reminisced on ancestral technologies that harnessed fire and while also foraging for seaweed to cook with.
